We checked our credit reports about four months later and found that RBC was reporting unpaid student loans for both of us. Investigation revealed that sometime between 2003 and 2006, RBC underwent some sort of file conversion that renumbered our student loans. As our payments were being submitted under the original loan numbers, the new loan numbers began to show as delinquent and were reported as such to the credit bureaus.
We discovered this fiasco in spring 2008 and today it is still not resolved. We are going to be applying for a mortgage, but this will kill our chances if it is not corrected on our credit bureaus. Actually, Equifax has made the necessary corrections - it is TransUnion who claims they have not gotten any updates from RBC.
I want to know how many other people have had their lives impacted by this RBC conversion. I wonder if there are enough for a class action?
RBC has finally sent the correct information to TransUnion. RBC says they sent it as an urgent request, but TransUnion tells me they will take 30-60 days to make the corrections. How do I get TransUnion to make the changes now??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
