Interesting website

While browsing around on some other forums I found a link to this site.

http://www.studentloanjustice.org/

It's actually about American student loans, but I thought it was a really great concept for putting political pressure on the people responsible. If someone were able to do the research about how our student loan system got into the shape it is in, who is profiting from it and by how much, and how much it is costing taxpayers every year etc ... a http://www.studentloanjustice.ca would be possible.

CASA et al have already done large scale events to try and bring government attention to the problem, such as the Wall of Debt. Unfortunately it seems like the government just put out some nice words for the cameras and forgot about it. A site like the one I linked above might actually have an effect on policy because it isn't a one-off spectacle. It doesn't go away and it educates those not personally affected by this problem. Right now it seems that if someone doesn't have student loans they don't know anything about it.

I don't know if this is the right spot to put this but there is a Permanent Disability Benefit offered by the Canadian Government to students who are experiencing difficulty repaying their loan(s). The web site with the information is here:

My spouse applied for it and had the debt wiped clean. It does not affect your credit either. Good luck to all who apply! :D
