Income Tax Lien

Postby skibumm » Sun Feb 15, 2009 2:57 pm

Hello,
I am new to the forums and I have a burning question that I have had for quite some time (since 2007). Is there any way to get the Income Tax Lien removed? Perhaps if payment arrangements were made? Can the default student loan ever be accepted back from the lending instution to get this lien removed? I realize these are general questions and I will make a appointment for a consultation, but is there light at the end of the tunnel or is it a rocky road until the studen loan debt is paid to finally receive Income Tax returns?
Thank you!

Yes it is. However, it all depends on your financial situation, and any hardship issues that can be demonstrated. The degree of difficulty does depend on who you owe as well.

Today my husband received an apparent letter from the Government of Canada stating they may take his tax return to pay an Ontario Student Assistance with the contact number being NCO Financial in Mississauga. NCO phoned my husband around the beginning of Jan leaving messages for him as he was away in camp.. when he returned he phoned them immediately to find out what they wanted.. They claimed he owed them money for his Ontario student loan, he told the woman that she would have to produce proof as he has receipts from HRDC stating he paid off his student loan as well as a letter from CBV stating he paid off his Canada student loan back in 2005.. the women told him she would look into it and get back to him about what she found out.. We've heard nothing from her and now have gotten this letter.. Does this sound like a legitimate letter or just a scare tactic?? How does my husband defend himself.. Should he call Revenue Canada and explain this? Should he contact NCO again and speak to a manager? Should he contact HRDC? We just need to be pointed in the right direction.

the lien can be removed. You have submitted a minimum monthly amount ( that satisfies the creditor - ask them).
That is how my lien came about. They told me that I was not giving them enough to cover the minimum amount to stop the lien from happening. They never told me about a minimum amount. How nice eh?
Good luck!
